Gary Jenkins, Oaktree Solutions’ Chief Administrative Officer & Managing Director of Not-For-Profits & Social Services, recently joined a panel at Morgan Stanley’s Exchange 2024, its signature philanthropic experience, on speaking up to influence and create positive change. On the panel alongside public-policy professionals, advocates and activists, Gary discussed how to effectively use your voice to engage with decision-makers and inspire social and policy change at all levels.

A lifelong public servant in New York City, Gary offered a unique perspective on the power of bridging local governments and the nonprofit sector for effective service delivery. He also spoke about the added value of philanthropy in creating pathways for positive change that can often get tangled in the complexities of government.

“It was such a joy to share my perspective with my fellow panelists in a room filled with esteemed leaders and individuals who care about imagining the possibilities through philanthropy,” said Jenkins. “I have always found that my work finding points of effective collaboration at the intersection of government has been incredibly fulfilling, and it’s an honor to be able to share my perspective with a wider audience.”

A key focus for Jenkins has been increasing mental health support for the homeless population in NYC. He played a role in creating opportunities to have discussions about this issue and identifying the right partners who, together, can move the conversation forward and improve the state of services today.

With Oaktree Solutions, Jenkins focuses on helping clients identify and build the essential relationships, across all levels, that can lay the groundwork for policy change and advocacy.

Joining Jenkins on the Morgan Stanley Raise Your Voice panel were:

  • Elizabeth Carlock Phillips, Executive Director, Phillips Foundation
  • Sylvie Légère, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, The Policy Circle
  • Moderated by: Sara Barba, Principal, Integer
